Born in Connecticut in 1957, Marilu majored in studio arts at Syracuse University in New York and in London, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1980. Recently, she has studied at Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, Colorado with Phyllis Bramson, painting, and Susan Kae Grant, bookmaking, and at The Center for Book Arts in NYC. Marilu has worked as an art preparator and mount maker in many of New York City’s finest museums such as The Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, The Museum of Arts and Design (formerly the Craft Museum), The Guggenheim, The Whitney and many galleries in NYC, and as a model maker for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, in addition to producing paintings in her Brooklyn studio between installations. She feels fortunate to work full time now on her art and is represented by The Cheryl Hazan Gallery in NYC. She has been included in many shows around the country and has exhibited in art fairs in NYC, such as the AAF show and The Pavilion at Art Expo. Her work is held in private and public collections throughout the US and in Europe.
