"Cristall Harper was born in Dallas, Texas. She studied in the painting program and graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She began painting full-time in 2008 and relishes the opportunity to work hard each day doing what she loves. She is living her dream of being a painter.
Cristall’s influences began at home as a child where art was around and encouraged. She credits her parents and high school art teacher for fostering her early love of painting. Cristall is primarily influenced by dramatic light and color, qualities that her tulip paintings are known for. Tulips are the perfect shape for catching light. Her husband is a loving supporter of her work; he custom builds all of her gallery-wrapped masonite panels.
Cristall’s paintings have been in galleries, shows, and events throughout Utah, including the popular Zions Bank Artists’ Receptions and Salt Lake City’s Art & Soup, as well as exhibitions at the Logan Art Salon and Springville Museum of Art. Her artwork has also been featured in American Art Collector magazine.
“I paint ‘alla prima’ or ‘all at once/wet on wet.’ I like the immediacy of working in wet paint and the challenge to fine-tune and finish before it's dry. When I work, my mind is clear. I see simple shapes and colors. It is a peaceful and energetic process simultaneously. I love the accomplishment when a painting is finished, and I want to share my talent with other people."
